What is Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture? Recently described by The Times as a "viable alternative to cosmetic surgery," or the "acupuncture facelift", Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture (FRA) offers an effective holistic treatment to revitalise the face and reduce signs of aging. FRA is a non-surgical, safe, and virtually painless procedure with no side effects. Using a combination of specialist acupuncture and massage techniques the circulation of blood, lymph and Qi to the head and face is invigorated. This consequently increases the local supply of nutrients to the skin, hydrates, firms and plumps the tissues, and decreases the appearance of fine lines, blemishes and wrinkles.
What are the effects? Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture may erase as many as five to fifteen years from the face, with results apparent after just a few treatments.
- Tightens the pores
- Brightens the eyes
- Minimises or eliminates fine lines
- Improves muscle tone and dermal contraction
- Relieves sinus congestion
- Helps to reduce a double chin
- Balances out facial colour and tone, smoothes blemishes
- Bags and sagging around the eyes, face and neck can be significantly reduced and toned
- Puffiness can be reduced often to the point of elimination
- Collagen production is increased helping to firm the skin, eliminate fine lines and diminish deeper wrinkles
Does it really make a difference?
Yes. At least as early as the Sung Dynasty (960AD-1270AD) acupuncture revitalisation practices were being employed. The Chinese discovered and utilised ways to change the energy flow within the body to initiate the process of facial revitalisation.
The use of Acupuncture in Cosmetology, especially in the prevention and reduction of wrinkles, has already attracted great attention in Japan, Hong Kong, and Sweden. A 1996 report in the International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture reported that among 300 cases treated with Facial Acupuncture, 90% showed marked improvements with one course of treatments. The effects included: the skin becoming more delicate and fair, an improvement in the elasticity of the facial muscles, a levelling of wrinkles, a healthier complexion, and an overall sense of revitalisation – not confined to the face alone.
How many treatments are needed? Individuals respond differently to FRA depending on their condition and lifestyle prior to, and during treatment. Improvements can be expected after 5 or 6 sessions. A course consists of 6 one hour long treatments of acupuncture, gentle electro-stimulation of the facial acupuncture channels and Tui Na facial massage. The recommended course is 2 treatments a week for 3 weeks and then an occasional top up, but this depends on personal circumstance and timings can be flexible.
The effects of Acupuncture Facial Revitalisation can last for up to five years with regular maintenance treatments.
How much does it cost? Facial revitalisation costs 40 pounds per session.
There are some people for whom Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture is not suitable: if you have problems with bleeding and bruising, some pituitary disorders, high blood pressure, migraine, diabetes mellitus, serious health conditions such as cancer, HIV/Aids, coronary disease or have had previous cosmetic surgery you may not be able to have FRA. Treatment cannot be administered during pregnancy, or when suffering from influenza and colds, herpes outbreaks or acute allergic reactions. It is also important to inform the practitioner if you have had extensive dental work done.
